alumina
Porous aluminum oxide is an ordered ceramic material featuring regularly arranged nanopores. The membranes provided by SmartMembranes consist of uniform, parallel pore structures with precisely controllable pore sizes in the nanometer range.
The material is available as free-standing membranes or as one-sided closed templates, combining high porosity with thermal stability. Owing to its structural uniformity, porous alumina is particularly well suited as a functional substrate for analytical and microscopic applications.
In addition, porous alumina is widely used as a template for the controlled fabrication of micro- and nanostructures, such as nanotubes, nanorods, or hybrid material systems. This makes it a versatile material platform for applications in analytics, filtration, and nanotechnology.
Glass Filtration Apparatus
Filtration apparatus for micro- and nanoplastic analysis
Our filtration apparatus is made of high-quality borosilicate glass and designed for sample preparation in micro- and nanoplastic analysis, including particles in the sub-micron range. Particles from the liquid are collected directly on the membrane and can then be examined by Raman, FTIR, light microscopy or scanning electron microscopy. The transparent design lets you check the liquid level at any time without opening the lid, so no airborne particles from the lab can enter the sample, which matters when working with sensitive samples and low contamination.
Scope of delivery
Glass apparatus (sample reservoir, glass membrane support with side vacuum port, receiving flask) and the SmartModule for one filter. The stainless steel SmartModule holds the membrane securely and airtight (silicone O-rings), stabilizes it during filtration and is easy to insert and clean. The apparatus is available with or without a vacuum pump.
Matched to our membranes
The apparatus is designed for SmartMembranes filters, for example for analysis with LasePor, MakroPor and SmartPor membranes.
Cascade filtration
On request, a module extension is available. It lets you connect several membranes with different pore sizes in series, from coarse to fine. Coarse particles are removed first and protect the finer membranes from clogging. The module is available for different filter sizes, please contact us.

MembraneHold
Universal Sample Holder for Filter Membranes
MembraneHold is a precision-machined sample holder for filter membranes after filtration. It holds up to four samples (10 × 10 mm square or Ø 9 or 10 mm round), so the membrane goes straight into the analytical instrument without unnecessary handling and with a low risk of contamination or damage. The open bottom allows transmitted-light microscopy, and large corner cut-outs make it easy to handle safely with tweezers.
Suitable for scanning electron microscopy, Raman, microscopy, spectroscopy, AFM and profilometry. The four positions can be used, for example, for blank samples next to the sample or for the membranes of a cascade filtration. The holder is reusable, nickel-coated and measures 75 × 25 mm.

MakroPor
